Funny fact, birds actually can't taste capsaicin. Plants have been producing compounds like this to deter non-avian animals from eating them. That is to say a pigeon probably can't tell the difference between a Carolina Reaper and a slightly wrinkly tomato.

This is true. Lacing birdseed and suet with cayenne prevents squirrels from eating it.
