It's wierd they were found to have discriminated though. Here's why;
While the festival was called "male free" it did not in fact stop men who bought a ticket from entering, which several did just to see if they would. So there wasn't actually any discrimination taking place.
However, by calling it "male free" every man in town except "those three guys" understood and respected that this was not a festival for them and stayed away.
It was in my hometown btw.
Sexism is an attitude, discrimination is acting according to that attitude. On that subject I've been to any number of male only gay clubs and there's never been a woman outside demanding to be let in because everyone respects that this is a separate space. But tell men we're not welcome and most will respect that except that little loud group of men who insist on being let in to the womens only gay clubs. Don't defend them, their idiots and no-one likes them.
I disagree. There's a difference between gay clubs directed towards a certain sex (and the guys who force themselves into lesbian bars are admittedly assholes) and a male free "feminist" festival. You're excluding someone because they have a certain thing between their legs. If it was a "caucasian only festival" it would have been an uproar. Sadly, if it was a "black only festival" no one would care. It's a typical case of double standards. Also if it was a male only feminist festival (which actually would make just as much sense because males also have problems in our modern society, but still not justified) and some women would try get in and succeeded they would be "standing up for their rights" or something similar. A more appropriate name aould have been "female oriented" or "female focused" festival, since men actually could enter. Don't buy into everything vänsterpartister says.
