To elaborate, I played high school girls soccer. We would frequently have our ponytails yanked, jerseys grabbed, tripped, cleated, shoved, slide tackled, ankles stepped on, and someone would get a yellow or red card during nearly every game. Getting cussed out by another team was a regular thing. In the fourth grade, a girl called me a "fucking bitch" because I told her not to WALK on my friend who had passed out from dehydration. Obviously, I was the fucking bitch here!
Alternatively, several of my male cousins like to regale us with their heroic stories in the arena. My cousin said his "craziest moment" was when a guy shoved him. Yup. Another said his moment was getting his jersey yanked. Extreme. I can't believe he made it out alive! :)
I call bullshit. My little brother got injured during their games all the time and after many years he eventually quit soccer for this very reason. One of his thigh injuries never healed right and it still troubles him today (a player buried his cleats in his leg and injured the tissue almost all the way to the bone). So yeah, I'd argue that soccer is a pretty rough sport for both genders.
