in the books, even Aragon meets Bilbo in the Hobbit series, one of the extended versions of the LOTR movies has him stating he's 80 something years old, but was edited out for obvious reasons.
I just hope Ian McKeller lives long enough to make the third sequel so they don't have to replace him with Michael Gamdon (Harry Potter's Dumbledore). Though I wish no harm to Mr McKeller, hope he outlives me :)
