I don't blame him! Don't bring your small pets and rodents outside (mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas) outside! It's very dangerous for them and stray cats or predatory birds will snatch them up so fast you won't even be able to move fast enough to stand up before they're gone. Perhaps if you have a special outdoor terrarium, but generally it's not a good idea. They can fall, get eaten, go into shock from the sudden change, get extremely scared, overheat, freeze, etcétera, etcetera.
