I wasn't really allowed friends, and the two I had were constantly being dissed by the "he's" (or, she's), or I was dissuaded to be their friends by them. Eventually they did betray me, in part because the parties were influential enough, in part because we were still-maturing teenagers and I thought I was better than them, yet envied them - so that ended up playing a role too.
