Honestly, no it isn't.
I dream of becoming the CIO of a major bank, or something along those lines. I'm reaching for the stars, and I'm not going to get there by sitting on my ass 3/4 of the time. I did that at a previous job for 8 months, but I wasn't sitting on my ass for 3/4 of the time. It was more like 4/4 of the time.
And when you're doing something like that, and not learning, once the culture of the company changes, you will very soon realise how dispensable you are when you are replaced by either a young "millennial" that is willing to work, or someone that has been working cultivating their knowledge through the years.
There will be many different opinions about this situation, but this is mine.
"reaching for the stars" is kind of a loose term. most people won't even get close to the stars, so having a stable source of income and a reputation as a hard worker (especially one that comes with free time to pursue other interests) sounds like heaven. sure, you might get laid off, but like the post said, people think you work hard, and you have IT training in an increasingly electronic world, which is more job security than most people are living on right now. I'm not saying it's bad to follow your dreams, in fact that has lead to many of mankind's greatest discoveries and inventions. I'm just saying that since a person fresh out of university is riddled with debt, a job like this is a dream.
