Maths a bit off for the industry. If 1 programmer takes 100 days, then 1 programmer should be able to do 3 projects in 30 days. Every project needs more layers of management than actual programmers, and you only need half as many QA people as you need programmers. The under contract outsourced call center can handle the rest or escalate it to one of 5 underpaid domestic agents. Engineer is a fancy word for “fired” or “likable future manager who we will put where they can do no actual engineering but can run queries like nonones business and manage employees by saying: “I was an engineer. I know how long this should take..”
