Ha, that's funny (seriously). All I'm sayin is that they are both theories, therefore neither are scientific fact. I think its fair to cater to both and not deem one or the other as an undeniable truth, even considering that evolution has plenty more evidence.
for one, creationism is based on belief of a book, evolution is based on the discovery of fossils, scientific evaluation, research and history, it's not really a theory.
Oh, I totally agree that some human being have been created by God, and some are descendants of monkey, which came out of some mucus in the water... The real question is: where did that mucus came from, someone had to creat it ;)
Actually, it has been proven if you start a container out with elements predicted to have been found in Earth's early atmosphere, phospholipid bilayers randomly assemble. Those make up cell membranes. Also more and more proof is coming up about how living and nonliving matter is more closely related than before. Lee Cronin gave a pretty interesting Ted Talk on this subject!
A theory in the sense that scientists use it means a fact, not a hypothesis. So the theory of evolution is a fact, at least considered by scientists. You don't have to believe it, but it's still true
Well isn't creationism just as credible as evolution? After all, they are both merely theories, neither proven. People such as Mr. Tyson don't like the creationism theory because it has less believable, traceable evidence. Still, I think both theories should be at least mentioned and briefly described. It shouldn't be allowed for school systems to decide which theory a person should believe in.
For what I know my school doesn't try to make me believe in one or in another one, so teaching science and learning the possibility of evolution instead of creationism is very important in my opinion. When you are in front of different possibilities you can choose the best one for you. I totally agree with you.
At my school, the science teachers state evolution as fact and, if you do not believe in it, they will try to prove it. They don't respect others beliefs at all unless its their own.
First of all, do you even know what the word theory means? A theory is a broad unifying theme in science. It unifies and makes sense of many proven hypothesis and explains them together. It can change based on new information, but is deemed true due to countless observations that support it. It can change is something disproves it, but there is sufficient evidence that it is true. For example (there is much more to the theory of evolution, but here is an example) the universal genetic code is common in all living organisms. That has been proven by science. A counter-example has not been found. If you want to find one,
great, but until you do, it will be deemed true. That is one of many aspects that prove evolution. If you want more, do some research. What proves creationism that is not religious? You can't shove your own religious believes down the throats of others. Do you accept reincarnation? Well Hindus and Buddhists do, so should you be taught about this in a class. The answer
continued is Yes! However, you should not be taught about this as if it is true. It is taught about ad an idea some people believe, not a truth. Creationism can be taught in the same way. It can be explained, but it cannot be told as true because it is religious and not proven. (If you say the Bible and the feeling inside of you is proof enough, then I just wasted my time writing this argument because
its not in your capacity to understand anything...) Evolution, however, has been proven. It is a theory. Do you know what else is a theory? Gravity. How about you go jump off a cliff because gravity isn't "proven" because it is "just a theory." Let us not
teach children at school about gravity either.

But I think the opinion that we all agree on here is that Neil deGrasse Tyson is pretty awesome.
