Did this include plants and animals or was it targeted only to intelligent life?

This got me thinking... does this mean half of every species got wiped off the universe, or half of ALL life, in a broad grouping? If that second one was the case, wouldn't a LOT more people die?

Nobody knows at this point. And if you defined it as all life, you would cover animals and plants too, which creates even more problems. Best to not think about it.

If it's all life it would include bacteria and other microscopic organisms.

I'm thinking it was only all intelligent life, his big issue was with overpopulation and the impacts that it had on the different planets. Plants & animals don't have those negative effects.
