Yes, but in Mary's case her pregnancy would have normally be a death sentence, given it would have been taken as evidence she'd "had relations" with another man during her betrothal period. So that kind of ups the stakes a bit
To be fare, the average marriage age in ancient times was around 13. And Mary was already set to be married within a year. This is one of those statements/facts that is taken out of context and in doing so makes it invalid.
But in their time, she wasn't. She was of marriage age, just as bots were. If they didn't get married young, there was a real risk of not having children or not living long enough to raise them. Times change, but back then 12 was basically the equivalent of 18 or so.
I mean, I get it, I get what you're saying and I can't disagree. I just find it ironic how so many people of Abrahamic faiths act like their rules are universal and applicable anywhere anytime when the societies under which the rules were established were okay with marrying twelve year olds, owning slaves and so on.
No one is saying its okay in THIS time, because the entire array of life is different. But you cannot take modern values, cultural beliefs and advancements and caste judgement on cultures THOUSANDS of years behind us. And Abrahamic faiths are hardly the only ones to overlook faults in their icons. Buddha abandoned his family in order to seek enlightenment, but that tends to get glossed over. Besides, there are WAY worse offender than having young brides. Sarah basically pimped out her handmaiden to her husband so she could get her kid, then banished both mom and child when she had her own kid. Joseph landed his entire people into slavery just so he could flaunt his success in his brothers' faces. The list is endless, but that's why the Christian faith is based on forgiveness, though many modern Christians seem to forget that.
Apparently Mary was 14 when she was knocked up by God
So at least Zeus wasn't a pedophile
