30 states have laws to allow employees time off to vote. However I do agree that there should be a Federal Law giving time off to vote as many people may be unable to find the time otherwise, and those most at risk are those in the lowest socioeconomic positions who cannot otherwise make the time through work or take time from work. It also impacts certain busy professionals as well who may be unable to otherwise vote. That said- most people do not require a whole day to vote. Provisions should exist for those who’s circumstances would make getting to and from the polls an “all day” trip- but most people don’t fit this exception. We do not need a whole day off to vote and voting isn’t mandatory- but having the option to vote should be mandatory. Following state law guidelines- an employee who does not have 3 hours before or after work should be able to take a default 2 hours off to vote, and based on their circumstances should be granted as much time as practical to be able to vote.

Would you rather have a day off every year or a day off every 4 years

If it allowed those that might otherwise not have the opportunity to have any modicum of control over who runs their country for those four years, I'd happily work an extra day for three of them.

A lot of places don’t give you the day off for Presidents’ Day, probably most
