... guess the emphasis is on the 'freestanding' bit, given that Uluru is somewhat attached to Australia. Anyway, even that ain't the largest monolith; it's Mt Augustus, in Western Australia. Uluru just gets the attention coz it's almost the geographical centre of the Australian mainland.
