Pretty sure NASA would have thought that. Glad to know funsubstance has answered a mystery that has baffled science for decades... Good job.

Has NASA thought of putting cameras out there, Matt? Not taking a dickish tone, I honestly don't know the answer, but it's the first thing that came to mind after reading the freezing/unfreezing theory.

Well,NASA has nothing to do with looking at how the rocks move, and yes scientists do know how they move, but it isn't publicly known because it takes away from the mystery

There are some good theories, and known facts, like the wind can get up to 90mph at only 2 inches from the ground on the playa which makes wind almost certainly the motivator. But debate continues on the exact conditions that allow the wind to push such heavy rocks. Since it only tends to happen once every three years, and is estimated to last only 10 seconds, capturing one in motion is next to impossible.

Not to rain on anyones parade, but they move because of the vibrations of the plates and the rotation of the earth; however, I like the Spongebob theory better.
