Yes, because holding an entire religion responsible for the actions of individuals is TOTALLY the same as holding an individual responsible for THAT individual's crimes by refusing to support and patronize them. That is absolutely a rational and mature comparison.
Notice it says Catholic "Church." The point of this is likely not to point the finger at catholithism as a whole, but the high ranking members of the catholic church who - while only a small portion of them may have done wrong - covered up and defended the members who did. Actions such as knowing lying about other members' illegal actions, using religious exemptions to avoid punishment, assisting members in escaping countries where they may be in trouble, or even giving them "promotions" to give them more religious rights, or as an excuse to commit the previous actions.
In short, it's more to do with the actions of the organised religion, not the followers or beliefs of that religion.
But the highest authority in the Catholic church has spoken out against that practice and is working to hold those accountable. Meanwhile Jackson's supporters either insist on his innocence or make excuses and victim blame. But still, it boils down to comparing the crimes of an individual/individuals and comparing them with an entire group. Its a bad parallel that doesn't hold water.
I'm making a new religion, it's called The Not Kid Fuckers. If you fuck children and/or young goats, you are burned to death. Meetings are all the time, everywhere. We worship Greg, my older brother, because he's never fucked anyone ever.
In short, it's more to do with the actions of the organised religion, not the followers or beliefs of that religion.
