We have reusable grocery bags because we are trying to be environmentally conscious. We do use bags like this for trash if we happen to have them. I think this has very little to to with wealth and a lot to do with priorities in our case.
No bag isn't a realistic option for shopping trips when you need to get a weeks worth of groceries. And getting less than that means more trips which requires more gas. So well technically yes, no bag produces the least waste, the reusable bags are the best option realistically available in our circumstance.

@thekaylapup pay no heed to idiotic, faceless, cowardly trolls
Those bags are like 10+ cents a bag now SO HELL NO DO I DO THAT ANYMORE!
I live in California they CHARGE us for those bags. It is cheaper to buy a box of little trash can bags. They come out to 5 cents or less a bag.

Lol, they’ve been charging us 5 cents a bag where I live since the beginning of time. Even at 10 cents, if you get 200 bags a year while they bag your groceries for you, it costs you $20 a year.. idk but the service by itself seems worth it to me, leave along being able to reuse the bags
.
Edit: though I should add, I would pay for the bags if they were $0.25 a bag- no way in hell I'm bagging my own damn groceries
In most cases yes. It’s like, if you bring your own bags, you bag your own groceries. I should also specify that I’m a bachelorious single male who lives the lifestyle associated with his age bracket.. my life moves faster than the speed of light and I never have reusable bags with me so, personally it’s a moot point, but it’s valid for others around me
I get the lifestyle thing. Even though my life is not quite that hectic remembering to grab the grocery bags is still a conscious effort and I realize that this is harder in some circumstances.
The fact that bringing your own bags means bagging your own groceries seems very strange to me. Obviously it's a regional difference. I do think it would help more people be willing to use reusable bags if that wasn't the case. Here, when I bring my bags into some places I am thanked for bringing a bag, and the cashier still bags my groceries.
I don't bring my own bags. I don't have to pay for these, but I still end up bagging my own 80% of the time. I don't generally mind but then some days I'm like I'm not getting paid for this lol
