So are 9/11 memes to Americans, Christchurch shooting memes to Kiwis, Earthquake memes to Japanese, etc. Or they are not and people just keep rolling with the punches. Everyone will go through tragic situations and almost everyone other than themselves will laugh about it.
As Dave Chappelle said, "Everything is funny, until it happens to you."
Yeah, but it is still a tragic event for the people of the country and a sensitive issue. I know that the scale is not that big, but I am talking about touchy issues and issues that got converted into memes.
Best way is to roll with it tbh, also helps if people bully you - laugh along and make even more fucked up jokes about it, they can either be like "what a fucking creepy weirdo, let's go, this is no fun" or actually be like "oh, she's not so bad I guess, still weird though". Making them uncomfortable as heck really helps :,'-)
French guy here: this is not a tragedy. People freezing to death in our streets is a tragedy. The government not giving a damn about the population's problems is terrible. And CEOs of horrible companies seizing this «opportunity» to improve their public image by donating for the rebuilding of Notre-Dame, knowing that more than half their donation is given back to them on tax cuts, is obscene.
