We used to hand our daughter a unpluged/turned off controller and say she was the bad guys stopping us from winning. Lol every time we would die she say HAHA YOU LOST I BEAT YOU! lol

Played through the entire original Halo Trilogy with my older brother. The ol' reliable tactic he liked to use when we got stuck was to stick me with a plasma nade to either have me kamikaze whatever it was that was blocking us, or so he could take whatever weapon I had on me.
