Who remembers how hard the University of Alabama worked to keep out black students after they were forced to desegregate? Ending with the Governor of Alabama standing in the door to physically block them from registering.

I dont remember this. Did anything happen? Was he removed from office?

He was not removed from office. Term limits prevented him from running for re-election, so his wife ran as a proxy candidate and won in a landslide. He was very popular with Alabama voters, until the Federal government forced Alabama to let black people vote.
