Charging a fee for lateness? This is America, right?

They started charging fees because people began showing up late to their appointment trying to "skip the wait time," then throwing a fit when the doctor wouldn't see them an hour after their scheduled appointment.

If the doctor actually showed up 2 hours late, send him a bill. I've heard of people doing this and getting a check.

Here’s what needs to be understood though, doctors have a specific amount of time, typically, to see a patient. If the patient shows up, even if they show up late, the doctor is /required/ to give them their full appointment time. That delays every other patient afterward. The doctor is just following protocol. Even if a patient comes in an hour late, the doctor is /required/ to try and still squeeze them in. My mother is a doctor and I can’t tell you how many times she came late to pick me up as a kid because her entire schedule had been pushed back by some inconsiderate assholes who think the clock on the wall works for them. It usually isn’t the doctors that show up late.

i work in the dental field and know this all too well. ppl are very inconsiderate and think they’re entitled to so many things. we charges no shows and reschedule those 15+ min late to their appointments.
