Funny enough old farts like giving kids shit for not knowing about things that happened before they were born- but most older folks don’t bother to to keep learning the new things that are unfolding in their life times. If you were 12-13 or so when Pokémon made its big US debut, you had a good chance to have been involved. But a much lower chance of being into yugioh when it landed big and you were closer to 16-17. For the most part only sci fi fans who watched Buck Rodgers as a kid would be watching lost in space in their 20’s. Most adults I know don’t even know what fornite is- I don’t even completely understand what it is. That’s what a generation gap is. A lack of cultural touchstones and differences in values and perspective from drawing experience from different worlds.

Fortnite kids are hardly more annoying than kids have ever been ever.
I would rather some kids do goofy dances in public without bothering anybody than have to listen to little kids screaming their lungs out at the store.

I imagine soo many heads exploding. all those kids who believe idolizing Keanu and hating on Fortnite make them so edgy...
I don’t know why you get downvotes for this. It’s true and classic as time. The names change but the behavior remains the same. An idea that by looking down on something “mainstream” we somehow become counter cultural, “cool” and “smarter than..” we are all guilty. A younger siblings friend refused to read Harry Potter when it came out simply because it was such a phenomenon. Who “won” there? them, for being able to say They were what seemed like one of the few people on earth not into the series, or fans who got to enjoy a wonderful book series and share discussions and memes and enjoy an entertaining experience? What good is it to say “I never got into that...” there’s no section on a resume for all the fads you missed out on. If you have something better to do or you just don’t enjoy something that’s fine. But to shun a thing just because others like it- or to try to take their enjoyment because you don’t- seems foolish if we look hard.
I do understand annoyance. I can’t go anywhere it seems without seeing fortnite action figures, fortnite collectibles and pens and cereal and whatever else. But you know- for some kid who likes fortnite it must be nice to be able to go to the store and find toys and merchandise of what they like. Long ago it wasn’t so easy to find merch or even know if anything existed. It was more luck much of the time. So while for me I might not want it and I might see it everywhere- I’m reminded that as a kid it would have just made me so happy if some of the obscure things I liked were that accessible and available in so many options. For perhaps mild annoyance others can have great joy. I’m ok with that here and there.
