It was similar for my mom when she got hearing aids although some noises confused and scared her at first. As a kid her parents were sure she had hearing issues but the docs just kept getting them cleaned out it wasn't until around 10-15 yrs ago when we moved house our new docs got her tested and confirmed she needed hearing aids most likely hereditary as my gran and auntie also had hearing issues.
