A technique I learned from a Dilbert comic that has actually served me well with this kind of boss: always leave and intentional and obvious but irrelevant “flaw” in work presented- that you’ve designed around to be easily correctable. Convert pictures or diagrams to black and white and keep the original color version that can easily be swapped, use a “wrong” font or font size, or even leave something off that’s already ready to easily go in. Present- they’ll criticize that aspect, go add it. Take a long lunch, chill on FunSub etc. come back, present, wow. You’re a super star and they didn’t touch anything you really care about. Doesn’t always work, and be mindful of the personality of the boss- but with the right boss works 9.9/10.
