Honestly I understand why everyone hates Disney when it comes to copyright laws. But you need to see it from Disney's side why they are so strict with their characters and ownership of said characters.
When Walt Disney first started his own business of making cartoons he had 2 that did make alot of money. Oswald the rabbit and Alice Comedies.
But at that time he was working with a company that owned Felix the Cat. They helped pay for the film's and distribute them.
That company claimed they OWNED Oswald and Alice Comedies. They forced Walt Disney to practically ruin Alice Comedies by being forced to cast as Alice a terrible actress who was the relative of that company.
They had to leave the company and start a new with no characters they weren't even allowed to mention they made Alice Comedies or Oswald.
In the process they made Mickey Mouse. Who almost was named Mortimer Mouse.
And when they made Mickey they made sure from than on what was theirs would stay theirs.

Disney is like climate change at this point.
It's already too late so we might as well enjoy what we've got.
