Funny this is here because just about a few weeks ago a guy nearly died on the road I live on. I live on a highway that straight shoot to the next town and the one after that.
Everyday there was this guy who would ride this weird ass fucking bike thing. It was like a go kart but you peddle it like a bike. Well problem is the dumbass everyday would ride it in the road like it's a car. Even though it is probably 3ft tall and the guy lays down in it to peddle. He been told by cops to get his ass on the side of the road but he never listened.
A fucking truck hit him and dragged his bike kart thing for 10 miles before it realized the guy was being dragged. By pure damn luck he survived. But he lost a finger and has multiple broken bones.
Guess what that fucker did after being released. He bought his ass a new bike kart thing.
Some bikers are fucking idiots.
I don't hate cyclists, yes they give me extreme anxiety when I have to pass them but I'm fine with them as long as they stick to the road rules. Problem is most of them don't. Problem is most of the time they want to be treated like a car yet they don't follow the rules a car would, expecting special treatment almost like they're a pedestrian who isn't on the road with large metal objects going at high speeds.
Where I live, I have the exact same problem. Cyclists pedaling away, come to a traffic light "hey, I'm a bicycle, let me just go over the sidewalk and the crossing", then off they go... Then any time some driver complains they're like "what are you gonna do about it?"
You are right, but complaining about bike riders not following the rules doesn't help at all. The fact is many people who do ride their bikes on the road don't know that they have to follow the same rules as cars. The problem is that there is so little education for every day people about how to a ride a bike on the road. Often times people will ride onto curbs because they feel unsafe in the road environment because of people who see them as idiots. It also doesn't help to refer to all bike riders as 'cyclists', because that is just labeling them as others, and is just a way to dehumanize them
Of course I'm not generalising my comments to all cyclists, hence the "most" of them. I'm sure @lemmingoverlord wasn't meaning that either. The term "cyclist" literally means anyone who rides a bike, so in no way is that dehumanising them, like any other label we have for someone who performs a certain activity. I wasn't trying to help anybody, I'm giving my personal experience of a pet peeve I have.
