I have a question on this topic
I have a friend, who is pressured constantly by his family to kill himself, as it would “be a burden taken off their shoulders” he really values his parent’s’ opinion, and has become depressed and suicidal.
I have had several conversations with him, but i never seem to be able to say enough to comfort him. Any suggestions on how to calm/ comfort someone please?
Has he talked to anyone professional?
Any suicide lines?
I think it’s important to edge him away from the family.
If things get REALLY bad, and I mean catastrophic, call child protective services or the police. Having a family do that to someone is horrible

He stays away from home as much as possible, and i usually spend a couple hours a day to keep him company/ talk about his problems but i never feel like I’m doing enough...
It was really bad a couple of months ago (repeatedly cut himself) but that’s stopped. He says he just wants to deal with his family for the next year and a half (he’s a junior), but i know he needs help. I don’t want him to suffer anymore, but i know familial separation will definitely push him over the edge, which is why i haven’t contacted child protective services.
Also some context: he’s a trans-male in a super-conservative Indian household. He usually doesn’t fight back if he’s the one getting insulted/abused but will snap if his parents try to hurt his little brother. Edit: he hasn’t had any professional help
You are doing enough. You're only one person and not a professional, remember that.
I know you said it wouldn't be good for him to be separated from his family but if they're urging him to kill himself, that's inexcusable. I don't think calling CPS would be a good idea either but it would probably be good to try to keep him out of his house as much as possible. A year and a half is short but can feel like forever, remind him that it's not and he'll be free once he's done with highschool.
