Just so you know none of the kids in Charlie and the chocolate factory died or was dying. They did come extreme close to harm though.
In the end of the book Charlie sees all the children leaving the factory with their parents.
Much like the movie remake with Johnny Depp.
With slight differences such as Augustus was not covered in chocolate more did he become made of chocolate. In the book he simply became thinner from being squeezed through the pipe.
In the novel, Violet ends up with purple skin but there is no mention of increased dexterity like in the remake movie.
Mike Teavee's ending doesn't change neither does Veruca salt.
See none of them die or get even close to dieing. Honestly I think Wonka set each child up to fail offering each one not only the chance to sell the everlasting gobstopper to the fake competitor but he also set up rooms in the tour to see if they will get trapped in selfishness. Which he didn't want the new owner to have. Because of the oompa loompas.
It is like Wonka says he needed someone who will look after them and the factory. He knew a selfish child or an adult would see them as slaves not as a race of wonderful people who need help.
I mean think about it. There just HAPPENS to be a room FILLED with fully eatable everything and the one most beautiful thing is a river of chocolate which he tells Augustus not to touch.
And he just happens to be the trying to make world's best gum.
And he just happen to have a room where they transfer stuff through tv waves.
And just happens to have a room of one of a kind animals. The girl had a shit load of pets and was spoiled of course once Wonka said no he knew she would go crazy.
He made each room on purpose
Than what does he say to Charlie? I barley heard you won yesterday.
The reason Charlie just got fizzy lifting drink was because Wonka didn't have time to learn Charlie's weaknesses.
Wonka in the end is kind of shocked Charlie fell for such a simple trap that is why he was so angry.
