I didn’t/don’t have a hostile relationship with my parents, I just never, ever, had an allowance and felt there was absolutely no need for it. I don’t need a basic income just for living, and we absolutely can’t afford that in my house

I was never given an allowance when I reach high school it was a thing that all the kids could go off campus to eat and my dad was nice enough to give me $5 on Fridays to go off campus but that's about it. anything else I just had to ask them for it sometimes they would make you do stuff for money like if you clean the garage I'll give you $20 or if you do some extra chore I'll give you money to go to the movies with your friends stuff like that the rest of the stuff is usually just hey Mom can I have this or hey Dad can I have that and either no or yeah but growing up poor usually it was no. Lol with our daughter if it's a not a direct no we tell her we will see and she knows that we will see means if we can do it we'll do it but if not then we're sorry we tried if we say yes then of course she gets it every once while we do give her money so she can spend it on whatever she wants but it's not an allowance really
