It wasn’t exactly an “invention,” it was more an art piece. The designer was inspired by her personal experiences with men in public spaces infringing on her personal space- and doesn’t think all men are like that- nor was her chair intended as a functional design. It’s a blend of humor and thought exercise- along with its companion chair that forces women to sit with their legs spread open. Of course either chair could force either sex to sit either way- it was more just humor based in her personal frustrations at the lack of respect people have for the personal space of others- and to encourage thought on how society tends to treat gender when relating to such issues. But she doesn’t want all men to have to sit in her chairs and never intended for the design to be an actual “real” chair. It’s like an art piece- a concept and not a functional design.
