You don't get 62 billion dollars without messing with other people's lives.

That's correct, but it's not all there. The people that amass a billion dollars, with a few exceptions, are some fairly psychopathic-leaning individuals whose drive is to have power over others. That's their motivation in the first place, and their psychopathic traits remove the inhibitions that the rest of us have (like not wanting to hurt people or make the world a worse place).

Rich certainly doesn’t equal evil. Flexible morality or a self centered/goal centric worldview certainly can help in wealth- and being unencumbered by empathy has always been an advantage to individual survival- having the ability to display interpersonal skills while not being deeply impacted is a boon- but there are of course those willing to make “smart” calls and deal with whatever guilt one may have on their free time. As the famous quote goes something like- “it’s much more comfortable to cry in a Mercedes than on a bicycle.”

That said- if you’re that rich- often times you aren’t TRYING to interfere in the lives of others. What- beyond survival- is the point of money? To allow us to live the lives we want yes? To do that- one needs security. If you had a billion dollars in cash- everyone knew it- and you were dropped alone into a favela RIGHT NOW- how long or how far could you go before someone or a mob took your cash? “Don’t rob me. Protect me.. I’ll give you $1,000!” Wow. Or... rob you and take it all? Not everyone will rob you- but it only takes one- or one gang right?

So you need to make sure that you and your money are secure. You need to make sure that your ability to live your life is secure right? So quite often- barring the powermad/godcomplex/so bored they enjoy using people as toys rich person- most of the time the rich aren’t interfering in your life out of any desire to do so- in fact to the opposite it is often that you may as well not exist to them.

With big money- most people aren’t going to stop every time they do something and think about who that effects. And the goal oriented and self centered don’t care. They want to build a house right there. They’ll work the law and politics to get the permits, they’ll build their mansion even if it cuts off the views of 20 homes or a road needs re routed so that it takes everyone else 20 minutes just to go around and exit the neighborhood, or if the beautiful native birds lose their habitat or whatever. Not all rich people will- but most of the “meddlers” are just trying to do what THEY want and you... whoever gets “meddled” with... just happens to be in the way.
