Not true. With light effort 3 minutes is easily achievable, with moderate training 6 is doable by most healthy humans. With dedication over 12 minutes without breathing is possible- and technically, every time you breath it also shortens your life- as oxygen is... an oxidizer. In fact- if you only breathed pure oxygen- you probably wouldn’t live long. “Air” as it is often called is a mixture of gasses.
