Frogs in Fiction #11 - Tlaltecuhtli (Aztec Mythology)

The terrifying earth goddess worshipped by the Mexica people. Though not a frog per se, she is described as being toad-like with crocodile skin and a gigantic maw filled with sharp teeth which hungers for human flesh. Appearing during the Aztec Fifth Cosmos, she is considered the source of all living things, and thus she must be placated to ensure order in the world. (Kinda like how one must satiate one's strange cravings during pregnancy, or face the wrath of one's life-giving innards)
