"Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." Martin Luther King.
Donald Templer was a man who’s most notable accepted work was on death anxiety. He wrote books on penis size and papers about how climate effects intelligence- and for a time toured the talk show circuit as “Dr. Penis.” He was associated with white nationalist groups and spoke at conventions- often on his thoughts of racial hierarchy and intelligence.
His papers on the subject failed peer review wildly- where any was bothered. For instance- he believed that conscientiousness was strongly linked to higher intelligence and argued that this trait in whites was one of the factors that indicated racial intelligence. Dubious as the idea whites are more conscientiousness may be- even if we take that at face value... most modern research and the general consensus supports the opposite- conscientiousness itself is more an indicator of lack.
Much of his work was based on Lynn and Rushton (like K differential theory) and other works that were discredited as scientifically false. Putting asides all the pages and tomes of work discrediting such theories- Donny himself has been discredited in his theories on the matter- and wether his hypothesis has validity or not (most agree not...) his methods and the bases of his conclusions do not follow scientific method.
The irony here- is that there are certain known cognitive biases that often make smart people fall prey to dumb things- like educated scientists and artists believing that Orgone accumulators could be used to alter the weather, or like intelligent people believing fake news- especially the easily disprovable like “Barack Obama wasn’t born in America..” A major bias at work is one which makes people believe that which is simply the easier or most agreeable outcome to them. Studies have shown that supplying actual facts isn’t as effective against this as simply manipulating people to distrust those sources. Yet here I am giving facts.
