Well- we can’t really say that “non artificial intelligence” is t anything more than a series of logic gates either. We really don’t KNOW what intelligence is. Human intelligence- by modern research- is less like computer software and is more based in our hardware- the literal shapes of our brains and connections through them seem to be the “control” over our actions- and those shapes and connections change based on inputs from our bodies and sensors. But ultimately- what goes into something like your decision to choose to wear a jacket or wether to go right or left if you do not know how to get to the room you are going to? It isn’t random- it’s a choice based on some factors you may not realize or previous experiences.

But what is the difference between “true intelligence” and “artificial intelligence”? The ability to “learn”? What is learning? To do something you weren’t programmed to do? That’s theoretically achievable with logic gates- but it’s also self defeating. If you created a machine with the purpose to be autonomous- and it was autonomous- well... it’s not doing anything but what it was programmed to do is it?

That said: “artificial intelligence” is used as a buzz word- to sell anything from a vacuum with pathfinding that allows it to better navigate your home- to a child’s toy that can parrot simply phrases or respond to certain ore determined types of cues- to even a fridge that learns how often you average a gallon of milk and orders more of your favorite brand or whatever.
