As I dad I can tell you that it is exhausting. Your child will always have at least 10 times the amount of energy that you have. And because they are invulnerable (in their minds only) they will spend a great deal of that near infinite energy trying to kill themselves. So the added sugar boost of an ice cream or the extra adrenaline of a puppy are perils that you accept at your own risk.

I had a patient, age 7 who got rolled over by a truck and laughed it off. Pretty sure kids are invulnerable.

it's how us big brained nerds with only small teeth and smaller nails made it out in those fields. temporary invulnerability from the ages of 6-11
