Actually it can. Also- even if you wear a full face covering or some camouflage that can trick facial recognition- there’s also gait recognition software (identifies the way you walk) and other tools that are improving all the time. So... it is what it is. And that’s if you don’t have a phone or any sort of connective device that can be used to identify and track you via satellite data or network access points. Also they are working on digitizing vehicle registration with transponders, and more and more identification documents and payment methods have increasingly sophisticated embedded electronics. In fact- someday your ID may be a transponder itself- and passive scanners or active searches can not only locate anyone in a crowd, but you can also near instantly know if anyone isn’t carrying proper ID- a red flag for a stop and search or a chat.

Anonymity is becoming illegal- as the same devices and methods that led you keep your privacy enable criminals to bypass security- and what’s a little liberty given up for safety right? (Sarcasm.)

Between the soon to be ubiquitous “smart home/building”, your own and other people’s cell phones, and many thousands of private cameras and security devices around the globe- you can theoretically be watched or listened, found or tracked, almost anywhere any time. It’s just too much effort to bother for most people. Until a really slick way comes along and algorithms and systems which can collect and sift all that data.
