Internet culture: <Sees letter “N” and makes it a symbol for a racist slur.>
Also Internet Culture: “Why are all these snow flakes so triggered by everything? Why do they just assume ‘little things’ like <aunt Jemima/kid in monkey shirt/casting in Hollywood/etc etc> are racist? Why do they have to make everything about race?”
Well, if you were a proper progressive, you wouldn't have notice the kids' ethnicity in the first place. Yet here you are, judging them by the color of their skin instead of the content of their character.
I dunnoh. Being “progressive” doesn’t mean ignoring differences, it means respecting and acknowledging them. We can’t treat a wolf like a dog or an elephant like a whale and get very good results. Things and people are different, but between discriminating on those differences and pretending they don’t exist or trying to erase them lies a spectrum of ways to coexist with our differences.
Were they used for any other letters? Cuz you know, theres 26 of them. Pointing out just one to make Sesame Street look racist when they are in fact one of the most inclusive brands Ive ever seen, would speak more on YOUR prejudice and need to point a finger at anyone to make yourself look better. Typical to nitpick what you want to fit whatever narrative you feel like spitting.
