Reminds me of a job I did with a friend for a class last year: old blokes wanted to make a pamphlet about their town's cultural heritage. We were like "ok, there's not much but we can make this work... -Oh, one thing, don't talk about the Occupation. -It's part of History though... -No it isn't. Everyone was in the Resistance anyways" ok so then why can't we talk about it? We went to visit the cemetery and lo and behold a lot of the inhabitants were decorated by the Vichy regime (aka were actively pro-Hitler), including the old guys' parents and grandparents.
We're not much for History erasure so we mentioned it anyways, even though we were factual and tactful about it. They complained so much. We got yelled at but had technically done the job so we got a passing grade, and they were to angry and ashamed to ever print the pamphlet.
If you had the audacity to collaborate, you don't get to pretend it didn't happen.
