She’s a very amazing person with many accomplishments. Hawking Has cited her research in his papers. To say he is a fan is a bit misleading, and there isn’t widely available evidence they’ve ever met or even spoken. But his citation means he either followed her work, or at the least, is aware of it and thinks enough of it to cite her. She did get a 5.0 at MIT for undergrad and was the first woman to win the Orloff scholarship. She was 24 in 2017. There is no evidence that Harvard or its faculty called her “the next Einstein” but she has been called that, largely by the media, and is uncomfortable with the title. She did learn to fly and get into aviation early- the specifics of when she first flew solo and building her own plane can be said to be nuanced- but she is accomplished at those feats and regardless of specifics did amazing things in aviation at a young age.

She has done extensive work and activism world wide to try and further science and especially promote education and STEM fields to women and girls. She’s certainly a person who should be celebrated by society, and the type of person who we should probably elevate and reward more than we do. By and large she doesn’t seem to want fame or even attention beyond what good she can use it for. In her words paraphrased- she’s just a grad student trying to do her thing. She isn’t trying to be the next Einstein or anything like that, she’s trying to be a scientist and live her life.
