The political compass really is arbitrary nonsense, though. While it is an improvement over the left/right divide, it completely ignored other axis, as well as changes between eras, governments, and systems.

at this point we need a 4d simulation on a 3d projection in animated form to show political shifts in time, space, and any other vector. just to get all the nuance.
