One of my friend's father reacted to the news of his son smoking a lot of weed with "you're on your own to pay for it" when he was 13. Said friend -who impressively turned his life around- says it only taught him to steal to pay for weed.

Accepting your 13 yo kid smoking weed is fucked up and irresponsible. That has nothing to do with tolerance or trust, it's just neglect. Cudos to your friend for making it after such a start.
