What did the US expect?

We aren't a monolithic group. Some of us abided by the treaties and were treated well in turn. Others abided and were fucked over. Some never agreed and attacked settlers. Others still agreed to treaties and broke them for their own benefit.

I’m pretty sure those settlers weren’t from the US since it didn’t actually exist. Perhaps you could blame Britain, France, Spain, and Portugal.
