Growing up with like 4 channels of network TV and a VCR, it was a given that if you could pay a fee to have the ads removed, you would, anyone would. I don't get why people single out YouTube for bitching, when so many other services operate on the same or similar models.

I think it has to do with the frequency and timing of said ads. On youtube, they are beyond annoying. I use an adblocker on my home PC, and simply don't watch youtube on my phone or TV. I will not ever pay to remove ads, because frankly, the sheer amount of trash on youtube only warrants free access.
