Lol. Not to undercut the meme- just for the history of it and fun fact- political comics and satire were actually very much a thing leading up to both world wars. Some are not so different from our modern memes in their humor and use of popular culture references or comparisons.
Once war broke out, humorous imagery was often used to reinforce patriotism or even by those against fighting and so forth.
They didn’t have an internet and information tended to travel slower, but posters, films, cartoon, news publications, art, leaflets etc. were all common sources of what could be referred to as “memes” of the time. Like our digital memes some became so iconic that they were spun off on or spoofed and satirized.
