Traditional electric guitars and basses, yes. There are many many more string configurations nowadays. I have 5 and 6 string basses, and a baritone 6 string guitar with 4 wound strings.

I used to play music in amateur bands for about 20 years (still do on my own). I ended up with 4 bass guitars, a baritone and a "normal" electric guitar, along with a huge stack of equipment.
