It is silly in a way- but if we really think about it…. Not really. The “strap” helps you not lose your tiny headphones but still allow you to go cordless when desired. You also won’t damage the wires if the cord is yanked like traditional phones and don’t need to plug/unplug the “cord” to swap devices, easily replaced if messed up, etc.
If we stop and think about it, we could make fun of cell phones too- with many “docks” and “dock style” chargers we could say that is similar to a cordless phone right? A station plugged into the wall with a phone you can take away from the base but still have to return to this thing to charge?
Texts and emails are basically the same thing with slight nuance too, and “voice texts” are little different than a voice mail or 2 way radio…
The small details make one technology a hit and another a pain- the difference between two video sites or social apps can be subtle but make us love one and hate another. It’s just a usability thing for each person.
