Lol. Funny- and valid. Personal Experience suggests they surpassed some people long ago in the field of “smarts.” Of course- “smart” is relative. The average person dropped into a far off wilds might die where animals thrive. A rocket scientist may fall prey to a street hustlers grifting while that same street hustler would prove incapable of the simplest facets of the scientists job. One definition of intelligence is adaptability- that is to say most machines or people can be specialized to a task through proper means even if they don’t understand the task- you don’t need to know all about networks and servers to type in a web address and navigate most pages if you have basics instructions and some practice. The right training allows for almost anyone to look like a genius at a specific task by instilling as second nature how to succeed at that task. A football player might be very bad at strategy but look like a genius if they follow the training given by a strategic expert.
In that sense we are probably very far off from machines having the adaptability to be able to use a natural “intelligence” to infer without relying on speechify programming and in lacking data. Without being told it is unlikely machines will identify problems and seek novel solutions all on their own initiative any time soon. In the sense of ability at a task it is very believable that machines could surpass humans. Programming a game which a human being cannot beat a machine at within the rules of the field as defaulted is not only possible but we’ve done it. Creating machines that can surpass human abilities in arithmetic
or other areas is also doable. Crating a machine that can advance mathematics on its own newly discovered and recognized concepts and theories may be much further off. Often times we credit machine learning with the creation of things when the machine is in essence turning out what to it is random data- it doesn’t recognize any specific importance or function.
