Many vagaries and how does one need to “learn to recognize” that someone wearing Nazi insignia is a Nazi…? The speech is very unnatural- it’s full of little flags that say this is probably just a story made you for the sake of parable. That said- I think it is a good parable. A space that allows Nazis (etc.) to freely conduct themselves is a space where they will do so.
A common argument is one that states “so what then- they could always go to the bar not dressed as Nazis and you wouldn’t know…” yea. Exactly. There is a big difference between a place where one can feel “safe” and “free” to openly advertise intolerance and hate versus a place where intolerant people know that if they try to make their views open, no one will support them. So I do think it’s a good overall lesson- but probably totally fake story. Agreed.
