It depends I guess. I’ve worked a lot of jobs, some I liked, some I hated. Some paid well, others didn’t; and those two things weren’t always related. I wouldn’t blame a parent for telling their kid to work to not end up in one of my jobs. I literally have actually told kids to work so they don’t end up in a job I had at the time before. Some people like my father could have several heart attacks and be in their 60’s and still get up and go do manual labor. Most guys I am friends with decided they didn’t want to be doing that sort of thing when they got really old- so they found other careers or they transitioned into things like ownership or management where they ride a desk or aren’t taking a beating on their bodies all day.
So there isn’t shame in being someone who actually makes things for a living- there should be pride- but hell- there’s pride in serving your country too but plenty of parents who have served as general enlisted wouldn’t want their kids to go that route either.
