In fairness- some people just have round faces or large heads proportional to their bodies. I had a friend who dated a girl who had a “chubby face” and tended to wear puffy oversized jackets. Everyone thought she was plus sized.
She was literally a size zero. She had a round face and her head was probably “normal size” or even small- but her body was so tiny it looked relatively large in comparison.
I knew another person who was 300+ pounds. They lost like 180lbs and… they had a big head. It looked big when they were 300lbs- but it wasn’t too out of proportion because they had a big body. When they dropped all the weight they used to joke that they went from eating too many lollipops to being a walking lollipop. So you can’t really tell someone’s size just by their head and face reliably.
I also want to add that regardless- it’s not really cool to make fun of someone cosplaying a character. An overwhelming number of fictional characters have bodies that are literally not…
.. physically possible to achieve or can’t exist without plastic surgery etc. so some odd adherence to accuracy is somewhat moot. Of course it is impressive when a person has a striking resemblance to the character they are cosplaying. Competitors and pros especially strive for this. That said, many people aren’t choosing characters based on who they think they can most convincingly portray, they are simply choosing characters they like or think look cool. Those sorts of things are about having a good time and enjoying yourself.
People shouldn’t be made to feel excluded from participating because they don’t fit a certain aesthetic or feel forced to only choose charterers that they are most like. That somewhat defeats the purpose of costumes and dressing up to be someone else.
